Message We have a pen marked Salz Bros Inc NY that is 18K gold. It has a gold ring at top to be worn as necklace I suspect. I've seen lots of pens by Salz Bros but have not seen any photos of any gold filigree. It is in perfect condition and we suspect it was from 1920s or 1930s. It came to us via an eldery Uncle who resided near Cleveland, OH. Does anyone else have a pen like this? Any idea of value? Thank you.

I too have a Salz Bros gold pen and pencil set. Mine also has the ring at the end of both pieces. I also have the original box they came in with a preshaped blue velvet lined bottom. Imprinted inside the lid on the silk upper liner is:
Manhattan
Warranted 14K gold pen
Salz Bros. Inc. Mfgrs, New York
I'm sure your dates are if not exactly accurate, at least VERY close, as I inherited mine from my mother who was a young working woman at that time.
I found an offer of one such pen set on eBay, slightly used, but completely cleaned and refurbished (a set, but not in the original box) for the winning bid of $57.78. Mine is in need of a cleaning, but is otherwise in very good shape, plus has the original box, so I'd also ask about $50. The eBay seller dates the pen at the 1910's.
