| *PENS FOR SALE* Id like to clear some stuff out. Let me know if a price seems unreasonable: Parker 51 pen/pencil set; black with GF caps (in box); aerometric; fine nib, repeater pencil. | Does anyone know whether Lamy ever retooled their Lamy 2000 pens to reflect the reunification of Germany? The original pen, made in 1966, would logically reflect the divided country. But one I bought in 1999 still is imprinted WGermany under the clip. Thanks for any input. | |

| Aurora 88 demonstrators | |
| 7/28/2001: MT | |
| Question for any of you who own the Aurora 88 demonstrators: 1. What is the girth of the pen where the finger holds the pen? Is it as large around as a Pelikan M800? 2. When you fill it up with ink, does the ink get inside the seams where the nib goes into the body? Or not? With Pelikan demonstrators, this happens, making the pen look unsightly. Thanks in advance. | Miami Show | |
| 7/24/2001: wrweakley | |
| another post after reading others. NO I do not think this is a random act. I believe he was fingered at the show like others were in prior years. Dealers like myself and others carry alot of valuable stuff with them and that alone will make you a target. The dilemma --can not sell from a bunch of catalogs and an empty table, so you have to bring 100 items to sell two or three. I alone with others paid $50 for overnite security for so we could leave most stuff in the Pen Room--that suggestion by Craig was a blessing as tearing down and setting up is time consuming and a paid guard makes pens in the show room, more secure than in your hotel room. --and that saved alot of bellhop tips-so was cost effective as well. Perhaps Craig should list those that paid for that service and so ALL at the show got the security overnite. Ref security after the show---I normally leave the day after the show, making it more difficult for one to follow you as they are less likely to know your schedule and I also tend to stay in the hotel with my stuff in the room--of course that did not help Airline International several years ago. Nothing is fool proof, but the more caution you use, the less likely you are to be targeted. I use a GPS in my car (I did drive 2400 round trip miles) and using the GPS I take alot of back roads to insure I am not tailed. My overnite stop was at a friends with a locked garage--or in years past I took the Auto Train direct with a Valet Key for the trunk with more valuable pens hand carried. I am not saying Allen did not take precautions, infact at breaksfast one morning, precaution was the topic of discussion. Is is unfortunate, but the next time you go to a show, might be good for attendees to know how much work and risk it is to be there and have Pens for you to see touch and feel. Frankly, most dealers are there for contacts and to meet personally customers, we normally can do better financially selling at home (a more secure location) over the phone or internet. BILL | |
| Miami Pen Show | |
| 7/24/2001: wrweakley | |
| Bill Weakley (POWER PENS) 1 888 PEN-GURU. I Just finally unpacked from the Miami Pen Show and glad to be doing so since it means I arrived homed with all of my pens and without having the been ripped like Allen Gross (PENPLUS) had been AFTER the show on his way home. -infact 50 miles from the show I hear. This is not the first time this has happened after the Miami Show-and not the fist time it has happened at any Pen show. This is an unfortunate result of the popularity of pens and the increasing value of collectible pens. I will say that the security at the show was terrific and the pen show or the host can not be held responsible for actions outside the immediate realm of the Pen Show Room. Caution and common sense have to dictate outside of the Penshow room. But that is little help perhaps if you are fingered and followed. My sympathy goes out to Allen and the best way to express yours as a Pen Collector is to visit his site and buy a pen. Nothing soothes the wounds of a Financial Loss like Cash Flow. ---Shows die from lack of business more than theft. So vote against the demise of the pen show with your Collector Dollars and order a Rossi Pen or everyday Pen from Pens Plus so I can see him in Florida Next Summer. See ya in Florida next summer --email the Show host at B4awl@aol.com and attend. | |

| 7/23/2001: John Cutcher | |
| Since there is apparently a controversy brewing, I thought I would add some perspective purely as an attendee (not a dealer or an organizer) of the show for the last three years. First, I like visting the Biltmore -- it has some drawbacks but by and large is well run and is a beautiful place to stay. (I was getting maid service twice a day.) It is good to have plenty of free parking instead of paying $15-20 a day for valet parking. So you are not hit with some of the hidden costs of other places. Also, the area it is in (between an upscale residential area and a golf course) is quiet and seems pretty safe for visitors, unlike most of the alternative likely venues (downtown, Coconut Grove, or Miami Beach). It is terrible to hear that dealers may be the targets of theft, and this will have to be addressed in some fashion, obviously, or they will stop coming. But I certainly hope that this will not be the end, and am glad to hear that Craig is pressing on. | |

| Thanks to our sponsor Conway Stewart and Don Yendle this was the best show we have ever put on. Our move to the Biltmore's largest ballroom allowed us to have a total of 91 tables as opposed to the max of 75 we have had in the past. C-S's owner Don Yendle and the British Consul Robin Bayless were on hand to give away a 'Churchill' each public day and the 'Silent Auction' of a Conway Stewart Mod.58 Limited Edition went to Deb Kinney for $190. 100% of this money went to Tom Zoss. The tropical rain came down both days but a total of 761 guests made their way to the new location..Down the steps of the main hotel and past the largest hotel pool in the USA..For the first time dealers set up on Friday and did not have to break down till Sunday night. Conway Stewart sponsored a Pizza Party for dealers on Friday afternoon and a 'real' Habana cigar smoke-in Saturday around dusk. Wine was served by yours truly on the veranda Saturday afternoon. The mix was 60% new pens, 35% vintage and 4.5% watches and .5% knives. The Biltmore is 'pricey', no getting around that but one look up at the ceiling (made in Spain and shipped over in 1921)and installed by Spanish craftsmen, let you know that you were showing your merchandise in a special place. The show was a success beyond all my expectations. If not for the support of Conway Stewart it could never have been put on to the degree it was..Show dates for 2002 and 2003 are set and the ballroom looks like another 20 tables can fit. A video of the 2001 show can be had for cost plus postage. See all your favorite dealers under one roof at the Biltmore. The 'Miami Vice' of pen shows. Craig and Lisa | |

| At last year's show two other dealers were hit in the same manner, that's more than a coincidence. WE were followed from the Biltmore and hit when we stopped for dinner about 50 miles away. As far as my blaming the Biltmore, we had maids coming into our rooms when we specifically stated they we not to. Our shipping boxes that had pen boxes, display cases and various supplies wound up in another dealer room, after we instructed security to take them to a special secured room for shipping. Two other dealers had they're containers wind up on the 8th floor after several days. And these we just the stories we heard about. Since the police are still looking into the case, I don't want to give out anymore details. | |

| Allan We have read various versions of what happened to you and your wife.Would it be possible for you to provide an accurate account of what actually occured. Information such as where the robbery occured ? were you were followed from the hotel? How long after the show ended did the robbery take place ? etc. You have been quite critical of the Biltmore (one of the best hotels in the Miami area) and maybe rightly so. Just wondering how you can be so positive this was not just some random act. | |

| Sorry for the delay in posting, but we've spent most of this week filing insurance claims and taking calls from concerned customers, friends ans suppliers. First we'd like to thank all of you who contacted us this week to offer support to us, it great to know so many of you care so much ! I want to state for the record WE'RE ALIVE, WELL AND DOING BUSINESS AS USUAL. Our suppliers such as Michel Perchin, Visconti, Stipula and others have shipped relacment goods to help offset the loss. WE WILL be at the DC SHOW with two tables of goods including alot of closeouts as usual and look forward to seeing all who attend. I must offer a special thanks to some very special folks who got involved from the very beginning of the burglary and lent great help and support: Rip & Sue Griffith, Gary & Myrna Lehrer, Dean Tweeddale, Steve & Maryann Zucker, Jim Griffith and my greatest support , my wife Lil. I think those of us that deal in luxury goods and sell at shows must expect things like this to happen. I also think that when it happens at the same show 4 times in three years that something is seriously wrong. Craig is my close friend and has been for sometime. As the owner of this show, I place no fault with him. I do however feel the Biltmore Hotel security was at best poor, as many, many problems with they're security personnel continued throughout the show and after. Maids entered rooms without permission, boxes and baggage were lost and ended up in strange places, all stemming from the security personnel. I hope that Craig will see the pattern and accept that someone inside the hotel was respnsible for my loss as well as others of the years and move the show to another location, or better yet, consider not holding this event at all. Thanks again to all of you for your kind thoughts and concern. Allen Gross | |

| Vanishing Point (was re: First Pen) | |
| 7/20/2001: Adam | |
| Carmen (and Ralph), Oscar Braun still does have the VP for $72, and was I ever kicking myself when I found out. :-) On the other hand, although I paid $89 at worldpen, I still think I got quite a bargain. As Carmen said, it's a great writer, and it's just so cool. | |

| Ralph, I have to agree with Adam about the Pilot Carbonesque Vanishing Point. I got mine a couple of days ago. Good looking pen, great writer. The VP was my first modern fountain pen. I have two of these pens as my daily writers - one with a fine point, the other with a broad. I think Oscar Braun's still has the Carbonesque on sale for $72. Here's the URL (Click onto Specials): www.onebeagle.com/oscarbraun/ Pen City has the "old style" VP in hunter green on sale for $47.50. Here's the URL (Click onto Moving Sale, and then to page four at the bottom of the page): www.pencity.com. I have pictures and more information on these great pens on my Web site at www.riverapens.com/vanishing_point.htm. As you will see, I am a big fan of these pens. | |

| Parker Pen @ Pencil Set | |
| 7/19/2001: Louis Rowe | |
| I recently found a Parker pen and pencil set that was given to me many years ago. Neither item has ever been used and are in the original box with instructions for use, etc. The set is a Super "21" model. Can anyone kindly tell me something about this set ? Thank you. | |
| re: First Pen | |
| 7/19/2001: Adam | |
| Ralph, although it's a little higher price-point than the pens you mentioned, you might also look at a Namiki Vanishing Point (a/k/a Pilot Capless). I just got one, and I love it. (I've been collecting fountain pens for nearly 2 years, so I'm still a relative newbie. :) ) It's also quite a conversation piece, particularly the Carbonesque model. Shop around; I got mine from worldpen.com. If you go with an Aurora (and I love my Aurora pens), I would seriously consider the Style as well as the Ipsilon. When I test-drove it, I found the Ipsilon (Satin) to feel quite flimsy, although I'm sure it's nothing of the sort. Nevertheless, it was much too light for my taste. | |

| Thought some of you might share my frustrations with Conway Stewart. Upon receipt of email from Jeanette, I delayed business trips to await a WES pen promised within two weeks. No pen, no response to request three weeks later. Perhaps the company which produces exceptionally fine writing instruments has followed Omas into disregard of customers reasonable expectations? Anyone else unhappy? | |
| re: first pen | |
| 7/18/2001: Dean | |
| Ralph, I to would pick the Aurora of the ones that you listed. Second choice would be the Waterman Phileas. Others to consider could be the Aurora Style, Sheaffer Javelin, Hero 329, or a vintage Parker 51 aerometric. Check out the Stylophiles Archive April-June 2001 and find the budget pen article. Lots of great first fountain pens. Dean | |

| Ralph, I would advise going with the Aurora because I am biased towards their pens. I've owned a couple and they are superb writers. However, they Watermans are pretty hard to beat. Also, another recommendation would be anything by Lamy since I've had nothing but good experiences with their pens. nate | |

| Pen Heist | |
| 7/16/2001: garyB | |
| Maybe we could get more details from the victim of this horrible crime as to what actually occured. We all attend pen shows and this information would be helpful. Its not often that you hear of such a grand theft with someone following a person from a "PEN SHOW", breaking into a car and stealing such a large assortment of inventory. I am sure the poor victim was "INSURED. Lets all be "careful" out there . | |
| PenPlus will be at DC Pen Show | |
| 7/16/2001: Len Provisor | |
| I talked to Allen Gross, who was robbed in Florida after the Pen Show, fortunately there was no confrontation with the bandits and we're grateful there was no asssault. Allen has mentioned he is grateful for the best wishes and concerns from his many friends, and is very grateful to Visconti, Michel Perchin and others for speedily replacing most of his inventory. Allen assured me he and his wife Lillian will be at the DC Pen Show Aug 9-12. The pens that were taken were all in a display case, none were in their special boxes. A strong clue for suspicion if any of these classic pens suddenly appear for sale without boxes or papers. | |

| 7/15/2001: Ron Zorn | |
| Found an Esterbrook ballpoint over the weekend. Nice condition, but no refill. I've tried parker, Fisher space pen, standard BP refill.......no luck. I also tried to find a way to contact Paul Hoban (without any success) figuring that since he wrote the book on Esterbrooks, maybe he would know. Does anyone know of a refill that will fit these? Maybe there isn't one, but I thought that I'd ask! | |

| re: Parker Sonnet | |
| 7/15/2001: Waco Johnny D | |
| Not an answer to your question, but you should realize these were not the most-reliable pens made by the company. Frequent problems usually centering on the feed, which was redesigned (to limited effect) late in the pen's life. If you don't find a Sonnet, do not grieve too deeply or too long. | |

| Jim's music nibbed pen | |
| 7/14/2001: Stephen Lam | |
| Jim, strictly speaking, you should stick with your original offer and sell the pen to the best offer by 8 pm Sunday 15/7/2001. Your latest post indicates you want to operate in a way that is different from your earlier promise. Do you think that is equitable ? I am not saying this for my benefits as I am not interested in the pen. | |

| Hi, I wanted to buy a Parker Sonnet from Levenger at the sale price of 59 bucks, but they were sold out before I could get to them. | Rotring nib | |
| 7/14/2001: Sheldon | |
| This one is a real long shot, but goes. Some time ago, I purchased a Rotring 1928 LE pen from a well known pen store. It was mint, it the original package, etc. However, the tubular nib which came with the pen was missing. Rotring/Sanford only made enough for the 1928 sets and no extras. Somewhere out there is a tubular nib for this pen floating around. I would like to obtain it to make my unit complete. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. Please email me directly. Thanks in advance. | |

| Uncrowned Monarch | |
| 7/13/2001: Ross | |
| The Monarch cap top is a fragile beast. I think they were made of casein. In any case, they dry and fragment. The only hope is probably to find a "cheap" Monarch with a big lip or barrel crack. Replacement parts are not going to be easy to find. Or, more likely, a cracked nib. | |

| His Nibs Red Star Sale! | |
| 7/12/2001: Norman Haase | |
| Greetings, one and all! Announcing the His Nibs.com 'Red Star' sale!!!!!
Why 'Red Star'? Well, I've been listing auctions on eBay since the end of 1997, and as I
write this, I'm 4 unique positive feedback points from reaching 1000 -- when my attached
'star' turns from purple to red (I anticipate those last 4 positive feedback points by the
end of this weekend). As I'm not sure I'll still be alive when I'm eligible for a green
star at 5000 points |

| Belated Happy Anniversary to Penlovers | |
| 7/11/2001: Len Provisor | |
| Maybe belated, but a Happy One Year Anniversary to Dean Tweeddale's PenLovers.net Dean took a nice "sleeper" chat site and really made this into a real premier site. What I like about Penlovers today is the friendly crowd, tremendous diversity of advertisers which bring real value of information to readers, and his merger with Bill Riepl's StylophileS was the smartest internet marraige of the year. I'm sure Dean has more plans than chocolate chip cookies he gives out at pen shows, so be sure to stay tuned. If you have not already, back up one page to Home Page and hit "Favorite" on your browser so you can be here in a click. Thank you Dean and Bill. | |

| Very Rare Wahl-Eversharp Combo FOR SALE! | |
| 7/11/2001: Jon Rosenbaum | |
| As some of you know, I have made the treacherous transition from just
mechanical pencil collecting to combos. I was lucky enough to obtain a black plastic Wahl
Eversharp Gold Seal Equipoise combo with an incredible Gold Seal Flexible broad/stub nib.
This piece is excellent plus, with no brassing on any of the trim, no scratches, cracks,
dings, etc. In short, an outstanding example of a very rare Wahl. The only problem is that
I just recently purchased the same combo in bronze and green and simply cannot afford to
keep both. So the black one will have to go. Actually, Wahl experts tell me that the black
combo is actually scarcer than the bronze. I have no doubt that this is true, since I've
seen several bronze and green ones, but only this one black one. This is not an
inexpensive piece, especially since I had to pay up for it. (No sumgi deal here! |

| A couple of questions | |
| 7/7/2001: John | |
| Hi, I'm sort of a newbie to fountain pens, and have a couple of Parker questions. First, I have a Parker 75 millerais, and the endcap on the barrel is loose to the point of being removable. Does anybody know how these were originally attached to the pen body, and how should I put the end cap back in? Second, the XF nib laid out a nice black line until I flushed the sac and section w/ water, waited for the pen to dry, and then refilled it (I swear the pen was dry). Now the line is grey, and even when I emptied the pen again, wrote until the nib ran dry, and left it out, I still got a gray line when I refilled the pen. Finally, I had a question about the Parker Sonnet. Does anybody have an opinion on the quality of this pen, and how does nib size compare to other Parkers (I heard that a fine on a new-style Duofold does not necessarily equal a fine on the Sonnet, etc.) Please respond on this board, if you can, I may not be reading my email regularly this week. Thanks in advance for any responses! | |

| OK, it seems that I'm seeing a lot of attention paid of late to our little corner of the country, so perhaps it's time for a summer get together of a pen sort? Show off pens, display collections, trade, drool, whatever. In a feeble attempt to give everyone enough lead time, I was thinking August twenty fifth, that's a Saturday. | New $95, for sale at $75 (incl. domestic shipping via USPS priority mail). One month old, bought new from Battersea Pen Home in England. Only used briefly, but in just-like-new condition (two teeny little almost invisible marks on the lines on the sterling cap). Black acrylic barrel with sterling twist "cap" and clip. All packaging & new Pelikan refill. A very nice "standard size" ballpoint pen, but I no longer have the matching fountain pen, so it's looking for a new home. | |

| "Omas" Colorado | |
| 7/5/2001: George Dekin | |
| Quote : "That means the maxima Vacs I am looking to trade HAS to be very minty :) thanks, claus" Claus, your slip into the singular, infers your subconscious acquiescence of the fair trade of ONE vac for ONE colorado. BTW, I, personally have no interest in one of your black pens, as I already have a red pearl "vac" celluloid colorado plus a silver pearl, and no intention of getting any more of these appalling novelties. | |

Included are the pens, the individual boxes, with the example pieces of wood in each, AND, this is really the best of all, a three tiered wooden and suede display/storage case made by OMAS just for this collection. ALL pens are mint, undipped, and unfilled; complete with everything. Here is the display case description. There are three stacking trays, each made of wood. The 1995 set is on bottom, and there is a large piece of fine leather attached to the bottom tray. When the 96 and 97 trays are in place, the leather folds over the top and latches like a briefcase buckle. Very elegant. In each tray is a imprinted the name of the type of wood and a block of wood from which each pen is made. | re: PILOT ECRINO | |
| 7/4/2001: Waco Johnny D | |
| Yes, I have one but I recommend it only as an eyedropper-filler. The
cartridge nipple is misengineered and does not provide a good seal when a cartridge is
used, allowing ink to leak out to the barrel threads and onto the fingers. My sample went
back for this problem with a note explaining this design flaw but of course the pen came
back with exactly the same problem (actually the pen went back a Namiki and was returned a
Pilot, a completely-new pen -- hey, at least I gave them a chance). If you do not wish to use the pen as an eyedropper-filler (one and ONLY one turn of teflon tape no wider than 1/4" on the threads and do not let the tape overlap too much), I would recommend you pass on this pen. Used in this manner, however, it should serve you well and provide extremely long service between fillings. Mine, by the way, needed a nib adjustment right out of the box -- the tines were shut tight at the tip, preventing ink from flowing unless excessive hand pressure was applied. An easy 30-second fix. |

| LeBouef | |
| 7/4/2001: JiaXian | |
| Hi, The pen you have the modern incarnation of the old LeBouef. Someone bought the name and used it on those pens. They're great pens, and are excellent value for money now that most are going for heavily discounted prices due to the fact that the company went bust one or two years back. Enjoy your pen. BTW, the new look of the board is great. Regards, JiaXian | |

| 7/3/2001: Will Thorpe | |
| Ron, Is that clip marked Esterbrook? I don't believe it's an Esterbrook cap. Around 1957 Esterbrook made an LJ with a clip that was a little wider at the top than the bottom. I think the clip was marked. It did attach with the silver ring and had the black jewel on the top. | |
| PILOT ECRINO | |
| 7/3/2001: Bill | |
| Has nayone used or own a pilot ecrino fountain pen? I stumbled across one today and looks light feels good and may be a good knock around pen. Price not that bad either. Feels like a pelikan m250. only part that worries me is where do I find cartridges. Pen comes with a a sac-like filler that does not look to strong. | |

| I have a black flat bottom esti with a different cap on it. The cap is cned at the top with 3 rings reminiscent of the estie J. The cap is banded with the familiar band of the J. The clip is attached to the side of the cap rather than on the top. The clip is different in that it is wider t the to than the bottom. It has curved line on both side of the center of the clip running lengthwise on the clip. Help Help Help. What do I have? what do I have? Thank you Ron meloche | |

| Well the rain is over for now and Coral Gables is green all over. The show is sold out and the Biltmore Hotel has more rooms sold than ever before so it looks like lots of public. Our sponsor Conway Stewart will give away a 'Churchill' each public day and I understand the Wall Street Journal is coming out with an article on Limited Edition pens sometime in the next two weeks. See you all in Coral Gables, Craig and Lisa | |
| Dou-Fast Staples & Parker Flaminaire | |
| 7/2/2001: Kristi | |
| Had fun yesterday at a flea market since I found a Parker Flaminaire lighter and a Duo-Fast Stapler. Does anyone know of a source for the eyelash-sized staples for the working stapler? Really is a cute gimmick. And I would appreciate a copy of instructions for the lighter if someone has that for sale. A great day with purchases of a toy stapler and a cigarette lighter after quitting smoking five years ago. | |
