Eversharp DORIC Catalogue Reproduction
      2/28/2002:  Jon Rosenbaum
Suprisingly, no one has claimed this wondeful full-color reproduction catalogue mentioned in my last post. Sold out 2 years ago and I found a long-lost copy. $30 takes it.

Student Pen
      2/28/2002:  Jan
I don't have a Core, but I'd put the Lamy Safari in the same category. High "cool" factor, rugged construction, and not terribly expensive. The Core is actually a little too "busy" for my tastes. The Safari has a cleaner, classier styling.

Parker 75 pencil
      2/28/2002:  Mrana
Hello Everyone: I am looking for a Parker 75 Sterling silver or GF or gold plated pencil with twist mechanism to drop the lead and with Flat top. Let me know if any of you want to sell it.Thanks Muna

College Pen
      2/28/2002:  Mike
Go with the Core!! I have 2 Namiki old style VPs and 2 Cores (I thought I had lost one and replaced it, then of course found it) in addition to Pelikans, Sheaffers, Watermans, etc. The Core is an excellent carry around pen for all the reasons previously mentioned plus it seems to hold a lot more ink than the Namiki. I love the idea of the Namiki - but mine seem a bit too tempermental and fragile, I don't think it would take much abuse. You could put the Core in a jean pants pocket or throw it in a backpack with no problem. The Namiki costs four to five times as much as the current deal on the Core. I have noticed that different dealers seem to have various color choices, not the same everywhere. At $20.00 (currently at FPH) you can't go wrong.

Dupont Vertigo RB For sale
      2/28/2002:  Giovanni Abrate
I have a brand new Dupont Orpheo VERTIGO roller ball (red lacquer with concentric squares pattern), mint, unwanted gift. WorldPen sells it for US $460. I am prepared to take $250 or will trade with fountain pen of equivalent value. US residents only. Please email if interested. Giovanni West Palm Beach, FL

Mont Blanc Meisterstuck BBpoint Pen
      2/28/2002:  Mike Harris
I have recently purchased my first Mont Blanc, a 14K Meisterstuck fountain pen. I purchased this pen thru the military exchange system ordering it from a distributor in Germany. I can't find the matching BBpoint pen. I asked at Fahrney's in downtown DC and the clerk informed me that I had a model #164 and what I was looking for was a model #161. I have been unable to locate any reference to such model numbers. Can anyone help me??

College Pen
      2/28/2002:  Steeve
I have to chime in here for the Namiki VP (old version) that is a super handy, quick to use, no cap to deal with, good writing pen. A rollerball would be second choice. Go for the Namiki!

Re: College pen, rOtring core
      2/28/2002:  Richard
I have to agree with Steve's recommendation of the Core. A traditional-looking pen it is not; what it is is majorly funky and IMHO just about ideal for eliciting exclamations of "wicked cool!" from other students. The Core is noted for being a good writer and very sturdy. You can currently find Core fountain pens at Fountain Pen Hospital (http://www.fountainpenhospital.com/) for $25.00 or less - see the Super Specials.

College Pen
      2/28/2002:  Steve C
The Rotring Core fountain pen is a very durable, well made, smooth writing fountain pen that sells for approx. $25.00-30.00. It also has a very sturdy (industrial strength) clip that will keep secured in your pants pocket.

College Pen
      2/27/2002:  Adam
Joe, have you thought about getting a Namiki Vanishing Point? It's a fountain pen with a retractable nib--pretty neat mechanism, and clicks closed when not in use. Maybe OK for a pants pocket. Pam Braun (www.oscarbraunpens.com) has them at a relatively inexpensive price. Good luck next year!

The Last Vintage Catalogue Repro for SALE!
      2/27/2002:  Jon Rosenbaum
I call this one the "Pen Panoply--Selections from Vintage Fountain Pen Catalogues and Brochures" because its a compendium of five different manufacturers material from 1920-1930. It consists of a variety of pages from dealer brochures, and company and distributor catalogues. Brands included: Grieshaber Pens (Not available from PCA in any form), Dunn, Moores, Mabie-Todd Swan Enterna, and a brochure showing the rare "Ivorine colored pre-plastic Parker pens in full color! Fourteen pages, 12 of which are in full-color. As is usual, its comb bound with heavy covers and coated paper. If you're interested in any of these brands, or just want some very interesting color reference material, this is hard to beat. Sample pages are at http://members.aol.com/jonr529/panoply1.jpg and panoply2.jpg. Very limited supply as it was well-received at the recent LA Pen Show. Price is $24.50 including domestic USA postage. Please email me for remittance instructions. Please note, this may be the last of the repro catalogues, as there are no more interesting color catalogues available to me for reproduction. By the way, I have discovered I have one copy left of a 1933 Eversharp reproduction catalogue that was sold out about 2 years ago. It shows Doric, Equipoise, etc. pens and pencils full color, 14 pages, comb bound, etc. Price $30 including shipping domestic USA. This catalogue has been available in a tiny black and white version from another well-known internet pen person--except no substitutes--this is the real McCoy! If you are a Doric or Equipoise collector and missed it the first time around, now's your chance, but there's only one. First confirming email gets it. For other titles still available, please email. Thanks again for your support in this project. I hope everyone who has ordered my catalogues is pleased with them. Best, Jon Rosenbaum

COLEGE PEN?
      2/27/2002:  JOE
Hello, I have recently, within the past year, become very interested in fountain pens. I love to write with them, collect them, and learn about them. Actually after religiously using one for the past few months I find it difficult to write with alternative writing instruments. Next year I will be going to college. I want to bring my fountain pen along, but I just don't think it will work out. All the rushing around, the fast pace notes, and just plain no where to keep it on me all day. Right now I am required to wear a uniform to high school. So my inside jacket pocket is very useful. At college I will not have this convince. My pants pocket is OK, just not very secure. So as an alternative to the fountain pen, I was thinking of investing in a quality rollerball pen. But I really don't want to return to non-fountain pens. Today on the web I ran across an article on the Pelikan Technixx. This got me thinking. Maybe I would be better off buying an inexpensive, but functional fountain pen for college, and save my regular fountain pen for other times. Anyway, all and all, what's your opinion? Should I use a rollerball? Purchase a nice inexpensive fountain pen? Or go the risky route, and use my day to day fountain pen? Which I really would not like to do since my regular fountain pen is very expensive and has allot of sentimental value. THANKS!!! -JOE-

Montegrappa Reminiscence
      2/27/2002:  Steve
I have a Montegrappa Reminiscence fountain pen, medium nib, small size in vermeil that I would like to trade with someone who has the sterling silver version. I would really prefer the larger size as well if that is an option. The pen is approx. six months old and in excellent condition. I have the box and papers of course. The pen has been used very little (maybe three or four converters worth of ink). No scratches, dings or dents. It's just the wrong color, and would prefer a larger size........thanks, Steve

Lost Pen and Need to Replace
      2/27/2002:  Tom Mooney

Re: Leaky Parker '21"s (Owen Northrup)
      2/25/2002:  Richard
The most likely point for a "21" to leak, barring a crack in the shell, is at the threaded joint between the shell and the connector. This is an easy leak to remedy, and you usually get a really good writer out of it. The only caution is that taking a "21" shell off is dangerous without heat because these pens are usually shellacked together.

Parker 51
      2/24/2002:  Esther
We have a Parker 51 fountain pen with the original price sticker. It appears that this pen has never been used. It has a 12K GF cap with a black barrel, and a fine nib. Made in Canada. $200. We also have a 51 ball pen which matches the fountain pen very nicely. It has been used, but is in mint condition. The clip is longer than the one on the FP, but they still go together well. The BP was made in the USA. The colors of the jewels on top (gray) matches very well. $100. If you purchase both pens, you will get them in an older Parker box which can hold up to four pens. Thank you.

Weekend sale -- His Nibs.com
      2/23/2002:  Norman Haase
Hello all! Since I've gotten started a bit late on this sale , let's run it through the end of day on Monday, February 24th. This sale's focus is not on pens, but rather pen rests, stands and cups, which tend to get lost on the website, as they're buried a bit under 'Accessories'. Although none of these started life as being pen-related, I've selected each for that purpose and use a number of them myself on my desk. Each item is 30% off, and although as I write this all of them are in stock, you might want to let me know of second and third choices, as particular ones may sell out quickly: http://www.hisnibs.com/pen_rests.htm http://www.hisnibs.com/pen_stands1.htm http://www.hisnibs.com/pen_cups.htm When ordering from the regular selection of pens, don't forget to take advantage of the February Special: http://www.hisnibs.com/specials.htm Regards, Norman Haase His Nibs.com www.hisnibs.com

Looking for a source for Hero Pens
      2/22/2002:  Linda (Eddy-4)
Hello! I recently won an auction for a Hero 152 pen. I love it. I would like to get some more pens like it, but have not been able to find similar ones from sources here in US. It is a higher end pen with a 14k nib and has black flowers over gold. (I'm particularly interested in finding the Hero 184.) Does anyone have a source where I purchase some more of these beautful pens? Thanks much. Linda

Delt dolcevita
      2/21/2002:  Liz Moore
I just wanted to add some comments about the dolcevita pens that are featured in the current Stylophiles. the pens, although light weight are made of particularly thick material I expect them to be very tough in the "dropped on a tile floor" arena. Another nice feature is that the caps unscrew with one turn, much as I believe Pelikans do. This is very handy when you want to jot something down in a hurry. Many other screw top pens make you twist and twist. I think that orange works so well because it's very close to the color of the pencils we all grew up with. I also wanted to comment on the sizes of the Medium and oversize pens. The medium pen though shorter than a Mont Blanc 149 is actually the same width. The oversize Dolce Vita's barrel is actually wider than a 149! It is a very grand looking pen, almost too big to carry in a pocket. but the Medium, while still grand retains some of the cuteness of the mini. Just wanted to add my two cents. I have really fallen in love with these pens. I'd love to hear what others think.

Troy's pens
      2/20/2002:  Owen Northrup
I have to agree with Ron about the Parker 21's. I have 3 and can't use them - I get more ink on my fingers than on the paper, so they are just pretty space fillers in my display case. It is a shame, as the nibs are all nice writers.

Pen for Troy
      2/20/2002:  Stephen Lam
Given your budget, my suggestion is that you should consider a used Sheaffers Targa. This is a pen of substance and it is available in many finishes and two sizes. $50 should get you a good sample of it in stainless steel, maybe gold filled or lacquer if you are lucky.

Inked pens
      2/20/2002:  Trent
I plan to sell a half dozen or so pens, most of which were manufactured in the last ten years or so. Some are more collectible than others, but by how much, on average, does an inked pen decrease the pen's overall value assuming the pen is in overall like new condition? I'm guessing ten to 15 percent, but I'm not certain. Thanks, Trent

FS Aurora 88 Demonstrator LE
      2/20/2002:  Mark

Troy's pens
      2/20/2002:  Randy
If you can find a waterman laureat RB, its a great pen. Enamel over brass barrel. Nice look and feel. can be found on ebay for about 35 bucks.

Troy's pens
      2/20/2002:  Ron
Waco Jonny has some good ideas - I'd go for a 51 instead of a 21 through. I find too many 21 pens with cracks in the barrel. Maybe a 51 special would be worth considering. Wame 51 quality, but cheaper because of an octanium nib. What about an Esterbrook with a firm nib, or one of the Sheaffer flat tops with a firm nib (they advertised that they could write through carbons). Maybe a Parker 88 Place Vendome? The short nib is quite rigid - or one of the stainless steel Parker Vectors. Lots of options out there. There's also the option of a _quality_ rollerball - the Waterman Hemisphere or Expert II looks great, and have been selling at a reduced price lately.

----- Corona de Aragon and Animals --- Delta

Come and see these two new pens made by Delta: CORONA DE ARAGON, a gorgeous limited edition pen, with intense, mediterranean colours and precious engraved ring and clips in silver or vermeil; and the ANIMALS series, for celebrating the hunters and the animal species that men have hunted and fought in the past. ------------ You find them at www.pens.it

regarding Troy's need for a FP
      2/20/2002:  Waco Johnny D
The challenges here are paper type and the necessity of making carbons (pressing hard). Some of the paper you're writing on may not be compatible with FPs, and multipart carbons often fall into that category because of the coatings which tend to clog FPs. You won't know until you try with the particular forms your shop is using. The brand of ink you select will also contribute to success or failure here. As for being able to press down hard, and ignoring paper coatings for now, that sounds like a good job for something in the Parker 21/51 family since those pens have shrouded (and thus vertically-supported) nibs. The 21/51 has a slip-on cap which is very convenient when quickness and convenience are desired. A good 21 can be had for well under $50 from a variety of places, in person or on the Web. But actually any pen new or old with a nail-like (i.e. extra firm) nib should suffice for carbons. I just think the 21 would be, for you, the ideal combination of understated taste, functionality, and durability. Additional qualities of the 21/51 are that they don't dry out easily when uncapped (within reason) because of the shrouded nib, and since you're buying a vintage pen you can sell it for what you paid for it, assuming you didn't "get took" when you bought it, if you decide the pen isn't for you after all. There are lots more considerations, but I don't want to hog the board, so there's a start.

Mont Blanc History
      2/20/2002:  JohnAnthony
At the LA Pen show, I was told Mont Blanc started stamping ID numbers on the clip-band of their pens some time in the '90's. However, I have owned mine since the mid '80's, and it does indeed have the stamped number on the clip's band. Does anyone know just exactly when Mont Blanc started stamping? And secondly, does this number provide me with access to further info on my particular pen? Thanks for your time.

Advise...please
      2/19/2002:  Troy Tinnean
I am a department manager of a very fine department store. Our store's decor and ambiance is remarkably elegant, as is our dress code, and our passion for giving our customers superior service. At work, I'm constantly jotting notes, handwriting correspondence to our customers, and filling out special order forms (which are on four-sheet thick, auto carboned tablets). I truly believe that using one of my fountain pens at work would coincide with my sense of style, and would compliment my store's distinction very nicely. But using a fountain pen at work seems impractical. Is there a value-priced fountain pen (under $50.00) on the market, that will hold up to the writing demands at my workplace... or am I just wanting to use a fountain pen for situations in which it is not designed for? (The right tool for the right job so-to-speak). I feel limited because I loathe most ballpoint pens, so I use my rollerballs instead... but again, I feel they lack the special refinement that only a fountain pen embodies. On a different penstroke... Has anybody heard of A&W fountain pens? They are made in Germany by Mutschler. At $10.00, they are wonderful writers. I currently have two of their models: The 'Marquis', which has a snap cap, and the 'Classic Impressions', which has a threaded cap. I've heard a rumor, that these A&W pens are rip-offs of some older Pelikans, yet they look nothing alike. I will greatly appreciate any and all comments any of you may have. Thank You All So Very Much, Troy Tinnean, Lincoln, NE.

Air travel with a fountain pen
      2/18/2002:  Rob Makar
I am about to embark on a rare business trip. I would like to take one of my fountain pens. I understand that airport security is permitting fountain pens aboard aircraft. Any advice about how to pack/carry a pen to minimize the risk of damage? I have a recurrent nightmare in which a security attendant inspecting my Stipula Erutria inadvertenly drops it, ruining the nib. Thanks for any advice.

Unknown Fountain Pen
      2/18/2002:  Scott
I am looking for information on a New Banker Fountain Pen/Pencil combo. It belonged to my grandfather. I have never seen anything quite like this before. It is quite large, with a tan and black tortis shell body. The nib of the pen is bent and needs to be repaired. It uses a lever to fill the ink sac. The bottom third of the pen actually is the pencil part of the combo, and works fine. A few years age the pen was working but in well used shape. I am very interested in restoring this pen to working condition. Please help if you can.

PENKALA - the pen maker from Zagreb, Croatia
      2/15/2002:  Len Provisor
PENKALA – A remarkable new book I recently received this new book written by Miroslav Tischler, from Zagreb, Croatia. Penkala is well known in Europe, but is still a strange name to collectors in the U.S. Eduard Penkala (1871-1922) held some 80 patents relative to many fields in radioactive medicine, anode batteries, aircraft, helicopter and hovercraft engineering, phonograph microphones, and also pens and pencils. In 1906 Penkala was issued patent for an automatic pencil lead feeding system. He proceeded to manufacture in Croatia and Berlin, Germany for world markets under the name Edmund Moster & Co. Besides pencils, Penkala designed and manufacturer a substantial range of safety pens, lever fillers, push button, push-knob, bulb filling and piston fillers. This hard cover oversize book is two pounds and 150 pages of beautiful full color illustrations showing Penkala pen and pencil designs, complete detailed company history, much of their advertising and ephemera is also shown. Produced as nicely as any Lambrou or Fischler and Schneider book, and considerably less costly. A little known fact is that Penkala was the owner of a patent awarded for a piston filler mechanism, considered the best design ever made. This design was contracted to Gunther Wagner on 19 August 1927. The first Pelikan 100 was introduced in 1929, using he Penkala patent piston filler. Penkala was in part, a manufacturer of Pelikan fountain pens in Zagreb, Croatia starting in 1932. How many of you Pelikan collectors knew this fact? You can visit the Penkala website at www.penkala.net to see images and illustrations from this new book, and can be ordered on line. This book is currently not being imported into the U.S. by any dealer, so purchase directly from the author is most economical. This book is a bargain at $58. delivered anywhere in the world, and I am very pleased to add this book to my pen library. Penkala website : WWW.PENKALA.NET

Weekend sale -- His Nibs.com
      2/15/2002:  Norman Haase
Hello all! I'm running a 30% off sale on the Hero '59' series and the '63' Mountain Mist pens through the end-of-day on Sunday, the 17th. These pens are a bit unique for Hero -- and Asian pens in general -- in that the nibs, although still fine, have a bit of flex to them. The vast majority of Asian nibs, especially those from China, have very stiff nibs, so this is an interesting change. The February Special does *not* apply to these sale pens -- you'll have to purchase something else as well to qualify if you haven't already taken advantage this month. http://www.hisnibs.com/'59'_series.htm http://www.hisnibs.com/'63'_model.htm When ordering from the regular selection of pens, don't forget to take advantage of the February Special: http://www.hisnibs.com/specials.htm Regards, Norman Haase His Nibs.com www.hisnibs.com

This is in response to Scott's question on 4Feb2002. I know it is a bit late and you may have purchased the Edson already. If you can get one at that price, that is an excellent deal. You might also try e-bay. A fella named Gerd Frunske in Germany is selling Edson at a cheap price. I purchased one from him and he is a pretty good guy. The only drawback is that he only has red and green but not the blue Edson!

I would like to know if it is proper or common for Parker 61 Flighter (stainless steel cap and body) to have a silver-colored arrowhead on the shell even when the clip is gold colored? Did Parker issue them this way, or were gold clip Flighters issued with gold shell arrows and silver clip Flighters issued with silver shell arrows? Is there a "correct" style, or were the colors sometimes newly sold mixed? Bruce

Parker VACMOBILE update
      2/12/2002:  Len Provisor
Guess what!! No, sorry Dr. I, I didn't find the VacMobile so you can't become VacMan with a nice flowing cape. A friend of mine, Pete Kirby read my note asking for info on this 1934 Vacmobile, and I received a copy of an article that was copied from an old yellowed newspaper article. The picture is very poor, but I will attempt to enhance it very soon so we can all see this. The article reads as follows: "PARKER'S MOTORIZED PEN - Sometimes it took heroic efforts to sell anything back in the depths of the Great Depression. And undoubtedly that was the reasoning behind the Parker Vacumatic car, brainchild of W.O.H.Freund, Parker district supervisor. The vehicle managed to create quite a sensation in Missouri where it made it's first appearance - in Kansas City, Springfield and St.Joseph - in late 1934. Yellowed newspaper clippings in Parker's Archives recount how a purchaser of a bottle of Quink (it wasn't called "Super" yet) or other Parker merchandise would entitle the lucky person to drive the Parker Vacumatic Car. In addition, according to an ad for the Model Drug Store in The St. Louis News-Press(21 November 1934) you could win a Parker Vacumatic pen ($5.value) for "guessing most accurately the number of times the Parker Vacumatic Car is larger than the standard pen." (The answer is beyond us) The winner's autograph was reproduced on the barrel of the prize pen. For those who wouldn't cough up the modest price of a bottle of Quink, rides in the novel car were offered from $1.25 to $10. (we were unable to determine why the difference in price - probably depended on demand). The Parker Vacumatic Car measured 15 feet in length and had a top speed of 18 mph. It was powered by a small air-cooled engine and was easily operated with a single lever which worked the clutch, accelerator and brake. " The image of the shiney pearl/laminated Vacumatic car shows the cap posted on the end, the exposed nib towards the rear. So, how about THAT!!! ....this thing actually existed and actually ran. What do you think? Should I make a Vacmobile model after my Parker planes?? Boys and toys......

To any domestic pen shops: Help!! I am in need of a Montegrappa GEA 2001 fountain pen in Fine point. I have a Medium nibbed pen never put out on display and in pristine condition that I could trade (of course I will pay shipping to you). The new owners of Montegrappa, Cartier, have made it impossible for me (or many other shops) to order this one pen. Most would agree that an $8000.00 opening order is a bit ridiculous for a shop that has carried Montegrappa pens longer than any other shop in Arizona (or for that matter, the largest and most respected pen shop in Arizona!)! LA show- Bring some Vacumatics!
      2/10/2002:  David Isaacson
hello. The LA show is just a few days away. Hoping to see lots of list-folk. I'll be at the Hotel by Wednesday afternoon/evening. Besides my general interest in seeing/photographing/purchasing(?) Parker Vacumatics of weird variety (off the mainstream stuff), there are a couple relatively non-rare items i seek, if folks have them for sale at moderate price. 1) Lockdown-filler larger size Vac Junior in Jet Black Shadowwave (two capbands, about 4 7/8 inchlong) with excellent transparency. this is not the gray/black pen. Rather looks just like a black vac until held to light. Then shows shadowwave transparency. I seek one with excellent bright transparency- either yellow-white or mildy ambered barrel. 2)Canadian Vacs with solid 9k cap-band in a number of colors and sizes. Have a few already 3) Vac Burgundy Shadowwave- lockdown filler- in the Slender Junior size (around 4 5/8 inchs) with crisp trim. 4) Vac Emerald Shadowwve- in same dize as the burgundy (little lockdown). again, i will try to squeeze the camera into the suitcase, so anyone with weird vacs who'd be interested in having them photographed for the vac pamphlet are invited to bring such pens. Thanks much David

In the flick, Crane is seen using a writing implement that looks a LOT like a hypodermic syringe (but with a fat "needle"). What is this sort of thing called? Alternatively, where might somebody find out what such a beast is? Thanks, Scruff

Looking for replacement nib
      2/10/2002:  John
I have a broken stainless steel Pelikan fountain pen that I believe is out of production. It was bought in the late eighties. I would like to get a replacement nib assembly for it, but I don't know what model it is. It is not one of the Souveran family, and it doesn't seem to be in their current product lineup. It is a low-end fountain pen that takes ink cartridges. It is small in diameter, and is a plain, cylindrical shape with the cap and body having a brushed stainless steel finish. It has been broken in half where the plastic nib threads into the metal body. The entire plastic threaded section has broken off from the nib. This pen has sentimental value, so I would like to find a way to get a replacement nib that will fit it. If anyone could help me, please email me at lochiron@yahoo.com Thanks

New Waterman Pen Book
      2/8/2002:  Sam - Pendemonium
  Inky Greetings!

Fresh off the FedEx truck:

The Waterman Safety, The Art of Overlay in Italy 1900-1940 by Letizia Jacopini, Maurizio Dansi and Enzo Verduci - autographed by Letizia.

To the best of my knowledge this is the first ever book devoted entirely to Waterman and Letizia has outdone herself! I've been waiting several months now for this book to be printed, well worth the wait. The photography is superior to that of any pen photography I have seen - magnificent full color photos of Waterman overlay safeties made in Italy.

OK, I'll grant that photos are important, but it is obvious that a lot of research and effort went into the text as well. Fresh information! History of Waterman in Italy, info on safeties and how the Italian overlays came to be, more info on materials and techniques - 93 pages of fresh info! Yes, there's a reason I keep emphasizing the word fresh - as many of you know, there are FP books aplenty available, unfortunately more and more they all seem to be re-hashes of a previous book, sure, some new photos and text get added in, so you'll have additional information, but it's such a pleasant change of pace to see an entirely new book with information that has not been presented in book form before.

I guarantee that if you like Watermans and enjoy reading about early pen history, you'll like this book! The cover features a magnificent safety overlay with beautiful cherubs surrounding the pen - perfect gift to give yourself for Valentines Day.

We have 15 autographed copies available. Introductory price of $90 shipped in the US. Actual shipping fees outside the US. We can deliver in LA if you get your request in early enough. I wouldn't delay too long, this is a beautiful, well written book and I suspect they will sell quickly.

Our usual rules apply - no quibble satisfaction guarantee. Checks and credit cards welcomed. Please email to reserve and note that we will reserve these 15 books in the order the emails come in.

Good Collecting! Sam

Wanted to buy Cross classic century sterling silver pen and pencil set

seeking details and where to find Williamson Pens
      2/7/2002:  Dov
I did not get any help on the other board I frequent acp-p about the defunct Williamson pens, 1880-1920 Janesville, 1906-1959 Setrtimo Italy. So my question I suppose is towards the Italphiles and lovers of all things Italian (and American, the origins in this case.)

They look like very interesting pens and I would like to try and add to my somewhat eclectic collection. Some details on http://space.tin.it/associazioni/leiacopi/williamson.htm See the lovely Vacumatic lookalikes.

Thanks in advance and in anticipation.

MB Noblesse with TRIANGLE LOGO
      2/6/2002:  JulieH
I have recently aquired a couple of MINT MB Noblesse FP from early 1970's. These pens have a triangle instead of the familiar Montblanc Star logo. I queried this with Montblanc, and they come back to me and told me that during the '70s, all products carrying star-type logos were banned from import to most arab countires, due to the perceived similarity to the Star of David. I was wondering what these items would be worth - they are Noblesse, Gold-plated, mint - I have a couple - bith Fine and Medium nib. Your feedback is appreciated.

2001 Stylophiles CD!
      2/5/2002:  Bill R.
OK, we've finally gotten everything wrapped up and ready to go for the 2001 Stylophiles CD! http://www.PenLovers.net/cd.htm We're taking orders now, they should be shipping before the 13th. Of course, we'll also have plenty at the LA show as well, if you want to save the two bucks shipping. Best news is getting a new deal on the replication, we've been able to drop the price substantially, to $13 each. This is a pretty good deal, I think, last time I counted we were at around 120 articles, and 900 images. A lot of "stuff"! Shipping is $2, and ordering details are at the link above. We've had them run off some more of the 1999 CDs as part of the same lot, so we can also offer a package of both CDs, if you haven't already gotten the 1999 version. I'd like to thank every one for their support for Stylophiles, and especially for those who have helped us get the CDs set up and ready to go! The 1999 CD was good, but this one is even better, I think. Now, to figure out how to make the next year's CD even better than this one..... I like a challenge!Bill

edson clones
      2/5/2002:  einv
that is the street price. pen manufacturers price based on consumer gullibility. so if you see prices for duofold centennials and pelikan M800 at $170, or an edson for $333, rejoice and get the pen. how else do you think a poor student like myself ever managed to cop a decent collection of overpriced jewels that write? hooray, for inventory economics of luxury items!! :-)

Forming new local Pen Clubs
      2/4/2002:  Len Provisor
I mentioned a few days ago about forming local pen clubs in your area. This really can be achieved easily in most areas, and I gave a few suggestions that may be helpful. My very first suggestion was to join the PCA, the Pen Collectors of America http://www.pencollectors.com/ Membership is only $30. per year and a member's list is furnished so you can contact others in your area. Sally Hinrich Camelsnpens@aol.com from the PCA advised me that she also is compiling info on all pen clubs for future reference in PCA. If you succeed in forming a Pen Club, let her know by sending her your club name and the name of a contact person. Len Provisor www.inkblotters.com www.provisorpromotions.com

Esterbrook point #1461
      2/4/2002:  rbruce
Over the last six months, I have informed various Esterbrookians about a common error in characterizing point ("nib") #1461. It is frequently described as "Fine, Firm" or some such. It is actually Medium. I discovered this when I checked a particularly enjoyable point I was writing with. I had never heard of a 1461 before and prefer mediums; the point in question was definitely medium. Moreover, the Esterbrook catalogue reprinted in Hoban's The Fountain Pens of Esterbrook lists it as a medium. I realized the source of the misconception while examining points in boxes at the Phila. show. I found two kinds of boxes for 1461's, each of which called the point inside "Fine"! There were two ways of describing it, but I can't remember the exact terminology. So Esterbrook itself was responsible for the screw-up. And people wonder why they went out of business!

Edson clones?
      2/4/2002:  Scott
Dear Pen enthusiasts: I am seeking to purchase a Waterman Edson fountain pen and shopped around online. I found the best price at Levenger (http://www.levenger.com/) being $349. However, given that the closest price to this was nearly double this, I am suspicious they may be selling fakes. Any experiences with this company? Regards, Scott

PenBookmarks Update - 2/3/02 - 521 Links!
      2/3/2002:  Jim Mamoulides
Fellow Collectors, Updated the PenBookmarks site today. Pen Dealer Category Changed: Based on the votes I got on splitting the "Pen Dealers and Auction Houses - New and Vintage" category, it now is two separate pages: "Pen Dealers - New and Liquidators" addressing sources for new pens and "Pen Dealers - Vintage and Auction Houses" addressing sources for vintage pens. The on-line survey did not generate a lot of votes, but it was heavily in favor of the split. PenBookmarks Main Page: http://www.penhero.com/PenBookmarks.htm Current Site Contents: 521 Links / 5 NEW 1. Pen Makers - 136 Links, 1 NEW 2. Pen Dealers - New and Liquidators - 147 Links, 1 NEW 3. It's been pointed out that a number of repair people and contacts for some pen shows do not have web pages, only email accounts. Should the links pages included these? The penmakers of Settimo Torinese
      2/3/2002:  Giovanni Abrate
We have placed online a brief history of the penmaking industries that were based in the Northern Italian town of Settimo Torinese in the years between 1930 and 1960. Dealer Demo Kit
      2/2/2002:  Esther
I spent a little more time on a close inspection of the contents of the Sanford dealer kit. In the smaller 24-pen case we have a Waterman Carene, two Expert, two Ici-Et-La, a Laureat, four Hemisphere, two Phileas, a Parker Ellipse RB, two Reflection, one Insignia, three Frontier, four Rotring which include Initial, Jazz, Quattro, and 600. While they are all engraved or have logo on the clip, the value of these adds up to a few hundred dollars. Keep in mind that the case is a very nice lined collector's pen case. Also, that the large 48-pen case is also an asset for a pen collector. The latter includes Parker Reflex, Vector, and Jotter. In addition, there are many more useful pens, pencils, erasers, gel pens, and highlighters for daily use, or to give away. Pictures are available. Thank you.

Pretty good day at the flea market...Vacumatics!!!
      2/2/2002:  Len Provisor
Bwaaaahahahahhaha...I said, to some friends as they arrived late, telling them "Never mind, there's never anything good at this flea market". The same ploy they used to pull on me when I first appeared in their neighborhood. Nice crispy cold day, the kind that puts a quick spring in your step to keep warm, and grateful for an 11 am opening so I don't have to hit the frosted gates at 6am. The hunt is all the fun because you never know what other related treasures may be uncovered. Old advertising ink blotters, pen catalogs, advertising and display materials, etc. I look at everything. 30 minutes into my hunt I found a nice pile of pens, totally priced more than I had in my jeans so I got real picky. My take: 1936 Parker Vacumatic Major (?)Burgundy Pearl laminate, three cap bands, lock down plunger filler, date code .17. (1936?)replaced nib coded 46, correct full feather clip for 1936. Oversize matching pencil with chevron band. Nice. 1936 Vacumatic Golden Web fountain pen with lock down filler and TWO matching pencils, all date coded .36. (1936). This pen was made from 1936 - 1938 and in nice condition as these, very nice to find. These will be on the way to Richard Binder for master restoration by Monday. HUZZAH, I say!! I'm a happy puppy today. What really pleased me is the fact that I had not seen this seller for about 6 months. He saved these pens for me. I'm flattered. Nothing ever replaces your most cordial and polite attitude. One other item I picked up for a friend that collects Peter Pan mini pens and pencils, is a really neat orange bakelite ring top pencil, hand painted floral pattern on cap, threaded end of barrel for cap posting, MIB. That was it, no solid gold "51"s, no Black Giants, no #20 BHR Watermans or pearl/abalone slab repousse gold taper cap ED. As I left I celebrated by treating myself to a chocolatier's decadent cream truffle for $1.00.

Stylophiles February 2002
      2/2/2002:  Len Provisor
It's just like getting some of my favorite fountain pen magazines in the mail. Everything in my office stops, "Hold my calls, take a message, I'm busy" as I scan every page futily trying to put the rag down so I can get back to work. I just read Stylophiles February 2002 from "cover to cover", I didn't save anything for later, I wanted to read it all right now. Congratulations on another superb issue, to Dik Liu on "Pens in your Pocket", and this issue is a Pelikan lovers dream with superb images from Bill Riepl. Terrific articles by Mike Stevens, Anna Lawson and Phillip Tucker. So....don't waste time reading this.....get over to Stylophiles.

New Parker Queen Elizabeth Accession LE on Pentrace
      2/1/2002:  Len Provisor
The first images of the new Parker LE to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth to the throne, is on the Message Board of www.pentrace.com The image os that of the Sonnet FP and BP, which I understand will not be available in the U.S. Images of the Duofold LE will follow shortly. The Duofold is a complete gold filled and engraved overlay. I can not yet tell if this is a Centennial or International size. Approx. 200 only of the Duofold will be available in the U.S. and I believe one will be featured at the May, 2002 Chicago Pen Show.

Interesting Parker on Ebay.
      2/1/2002:  Don Lavin
I have not been checking the boards much lately and I see I have missed a lot. First - Dean - GET WELL NOW! Ailment sound way too painful. I started looking at ebay again and stumbled upon another unsuspecting seller who fell into a gold mine. Following is the item No. 1069886211. Now get this - the opening bid was only around $25.00 WITHOUT A RESERVE! Next - the pen is shown in a marble desk base! The dealer believed that it was possibly a desk pen. It is a 10 day auction and early this morning of the 1st day it is already over $1,700! Will wonders never cease. Don
